How to Pass the Guard Without Getting Kicked in the Face
In an MMA or streetfight situation you may need to close with your opponent, but approaching the guard always carries the risk of getting punted in the face by an upkick (many KO's have happened this way in the cage). Here's how to safely approach the legs and get past them to a dominant position.

Thanks. I learned the hard way, with little advices from mentor. My first real pad work, I hope to impress my teacher and went all out right from the start. After 1st round, I was gassed out. My anxiety burned me out. Again, my first sparring session got me all tensed up. So I eventually learned not to rush the first round, and plan my training or fight for a long session.

If you train to punch, you don't clench your fist before making punch. You only clench tight while turning the knuckle, before the contact. This will not restrict your punch motion. Of course I do muaythai, so I do elbow and do knee strikes. I also do bare knuckle punches on heavy bag, so I know the angle of the strike and how hard to punch before I hurt my wrist and knuckle.

With the reverse elbow the way it's applied in Muay Thai is to step in between your opponent's legs as you're fighting turn your body sideways and then ripping the reverse elbow up underneath his chin. When you do it fast with momentum it's a pretty good elbow to use in a fight. In fact I've Incorporated it is one of my first strikes it works so good . It works even better if you use a horizontal elbow first across the temple or the eye and then rip the reverse elbow under the chin.

Feel as though the benefits of proper form practice are vast and far outweigh any reasons one may have to not practice them. Creation of neural synapses, increased learning curve, improved memory, focus, speed, accuracy, timing, muscle memory, pattern recognition, cardio, explosivity, overall agility and athleticism, stress relief, mental health, self expression, storytelling, life skills, relaxation, coordination, breath control, respect, discipline. It's not just about fighting, however, good teachers can break down every application many different ways, bring them full circle and convey the essence of it through drilling, sparring and pressure testing to find what's useful to them at the time. Kata becomes more sophisticated the more you're exposed to other arts and bridges the gap between them. My understanding of kata 10x's almost every 3 years as ive continued to keep my practice after nearly 30 years. I used to hate it in the beginning but now im very grateful for everything kata has given me. Kata is an encyclopedic reference for teaching and offers philosophies for approaching life. Respectfully 🙏

It's great that he was allowed something like 15 minutes to talk people into getting kicked out. I had issues with managers pushing to get them kicked out straight away. I'm like, yes, he is not staying in here, but I don't want to get my head punched in on the way he gets out. That, and I stood around all night, I have the time to talk to this person and convince them to leave quietly.

I use the hand on jaw, but the palm is inward between the chin and ear on the same side of the body as the arm, thumb is under the chin. For me, the forward reach is much faster from here and makes you look like you are considering something. Also I have forearm rotation to the left and right, the other side I can only get rotation on the arm side. My other hand cups under the elbow rather than tucked under the other arm, I also find this faster, especially for a lead arm swap. Everyone has an opinion esp in the arts, but what do you think Nice vid, not many discuss the hidden stances

Best solution is don't be a "savage in a cage" for entertainment purposes and to enrich some dirtbags who push it. Rare hard contact, start from no set up, 3-5 second bouts at about 2/3 real world speed (according to the Science) and intensity is sufficient to "pressure test" your MA skill set.

The biggest mistake of any modern martial artist is thinking that mma or ufc and self defence are the same thing. Self defence is a different game. There are a couple things that you need to consider when going from a gym to the street. The first thing is, you wanna finish the fight as quickly as possible. The point of a self defence scenario is to survive, not to win a match. You need to be able to output a lot of power in a small amount of time to neutralise an opponent, and make him regret he attacked you. Another thing in street fights is, you are never truly alone. You never know if another dude is coming to attack you. The problem with grappling is that when you focus on one opponent, your defence is opened up, and you're open to a lot of attacks. Grappling also requires you to assume a very close range with the opponent, which usually means if they have a weapon, you're doomed. Besides that, if you are in a very enclosed area, you don't really have much space to grapple, when you could just punch or elbow the opponent. Grappling also makes it harder for you to run from the street fight scenario, since chances are you won't be on your feet at all times. Of course, grappling is great at neutralising an opponent and every striker should know some grappling, but it wouldn't be my go-to for a street fight scenario. Most fights end on the ground, but all fights start on the feet. Be safe✌🏻

That is possible and useful if your attacker has no knowledge of stickfighting. But, seasoned stickfighter, don't just swing their sticks haphazardly. In the Philippines, for example, nobody carries a stick in public. Many drivers carry a lead/steel pipe on their vehicles in the case of a fight, a concealed knife or bolo/sword in rural areas. Unless you have no other choice but to go inside quickly, a better option is to go outside the "zero pressure area", or sidestep to the extreme left where the stick power is almost nil.

Twice I’ve had people wield a knife in front of me. Earlier this year a knife attacker came into a local store and assaulted the owner. This channel has good jiujitsu material, but this video was pretty much garbage. The advice being given here is dangerous. It suggests that preparing to fight against an armed opponent is unrealistic. I practice and love jiujitsu, but taking BJJ into a knife fight is like taking a knife to a gun fight. I teach FMA. Whether knife duels are realistic or not is beside the point. What’s important is dealing with the fear of facing an armed opponent. With BJJ rules, or if you live in “polite society” you can make stuff up about what you imagine life is like for other people, but don’t make the mistake of thinking expertise in one art gives you expertise in another.

I have a question, my right Ulna bone is a tiny bit longer than normal ulna bones are, That, is my ulna bone is closer to the lunate bone, which already caused a very small cyst in the lunate .... usually cause by trauma or in my case from punching the heavy bag real hard for some time. So, would you think punching with the three fingers position would relieve at least a bit of pressure, or perhaps increase the distance, between these two bones?? Thank you all.
